The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz, founded in 1904, is a Swiss international boarding school set in spectacular alpine landscape near St. Moritz, Switzerland. The Lyceum campus occupies an extensive site with its own sports fields overlooking the alpine village of Zuoz.

Curriculum system

The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz is one of Switzerland's leading international boarding schools, where 200 boarders and 100 day students between the ages of 12 and 18, from over 30 nations, are prepared for their higher education entrance qualification exams, while receiving an education which promotes intellectual, physical and emotional balance within a family environment, the school offers the following academic programmes:

    The Swiss Matura allows every student to enter Swiss universities without having to take an entrance examination. Our students are prepared for the Matura examinations in 4 or 6 years. The Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz offers, in addition to the German-speaking Matura, a bilingual Matura programme in German and English or in Italian and German.

    In addition to the Swiss Matura, the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz offers our students the possibility to sit the German Abitur, a high-school diploma recognized for admission to universities in Germany and the rest of Europe, in their 12th school year.

Teaching characteristics

Academic Tutorial Programme
Every IB student at the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz has an Academic Tutor who is responsible for closely and regularly monitoring his or her academic performance and progress.

Creativity, Action and Service Programme (CAS)
The CAS Programme (Creativity-Action-Service) is a core component of the IB Diploma Curriculum. Its goal is to involve students in real-world, purposeful activities that provide personal challenges and opportunities for critical self-reflection on their personal learning.

English as an Additional Language (EAL support)
Students in the DIS are assessed for their knowledge of English when they enter the school and, based on the results, they are placed in a class appropriate to their level. However, if they need additional support, the EAL Coordinator will arrange for them to receive tuition.

German as a Foreign Language
Non-German speaking students take a placement test and, based on the results, are assigned to small groups according to their age and any previous knowledge of the language. The courses are taught by specialist teachers.

Latin courses "Latinum"
After completing obligatory Latin classes in 8th and 9th grades (classes 2 and 3) students can attend optional Latin courses.

Admission procedure
  • 1.Students' previous school performance, assessment or recommendation are required
  • 2.Interview
  • 3.Pre-admission assessment tests
  • 4.Candidates' families receive a School Contract and an invoice for payment of a deposit
  • The school offers 2-3 trial days for prospective students who want to experience the daily boarding life at the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz. The students are given the opportunity to participate in the daily life of the school and meet their future classmates and teachers. 
SCC's exclusive access
SCC team member Gregor Conrad is from the Engadin valley. He is a former student of the Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz and a member of the alumni organization Zuoz Club. SCC has a long-term relationship with the school and can support the families during the application process, including the organisation of VIP visits with local guides.
