Institut Montana Zugerberg is a unique boarding school founded in 1926. Their longstanding experience and tradition allow them to offer a balanced and comprehensive education. Surrounded by nature, yet centrally located, the students enjoy an atmosphere conducive to learning and healthy living. Situated in a picturesque location on the Zugerberg mountain, the school is only 15 minutes away from Zug city and less than an hour from Zurich and its international airport.
Based on a humanist tradition, the school founder Dr Max Husmann, built a school that set a premium on internationalism and individual attention. His vision has remained the cornerstone of the school's philosophy and teaching methods for more than 85 years.
His educational philosophy focused on respecting and nurturing the individuality of students, while guiding them to a life of responsibility and independence. To do this the school has always provided a familial atmosphere and a sense of community, maintaining its manageable size of max. 350 students. While Dr Husmann wished for every student to become immersed in other cultures and languages, it was also vital to him that students keep a sense of their own heritage and culture, and not become uprooted.
The Bilingual Elementary School, Swiss Gymnasium and International School curricula are designed to give students a broad, comprehensive and interdisciplinary education. The school makes sure students acquire vital skills for life long learning and success. They learn to think independently, conduct proper research and analysis, and express themselves orally and in writing. The graduates are well prepared for success at renowned institutions of higher education, internationally and in Switzerland.
The dedicated team of experienced and qualified teaching and boarding staff ensure all students receive personalised support. The classes are limited to 15 students ensuring class-participation and enabling teachers to individually support each student. Students are also coupled with an academic advisor with whom they meet at least once a week. By continually challenging students personally and academically, the school makes sure they achieve their goals.
The community is a unique blend of Swiss and international cultures, creating a friendly and tolerant atmosphere at our school. The multicultural school body encompasses more than 40 different nations. The school is a down-to-earth institution and teaches students the values of tolerance, respect, good manners and a healthy lifestyle. While their focus is on academic success, their balanced extracurricular programme and familial atmosphere, ensure students leave their school as well-educated and confident independent thinkers.

Their academic offer incorporates three schools for students in grades 1-12: the Bilingual Elementary, the Swiss Gymnasium and the International School.
Bilingual Elementary School offers an immersive bilingual education programme in German and English based on the curriculum of the canton of Zug. The school offers our day students from grades 1-6 individual support, round-the-clock care and supervision, and a unique afternoon care programme.
With 75 years of experience, the school offers our students a comprehensive and balanced six-year education leading to the federally recognised Matura. Their traditional and bilingual Matura programmes serve as excellent preparation for university studies and allow students to enter a Swiss university of their choice.
International School offers a comprehensive six-year university preparatory programme geared towards a successful completion of the IB Diploma. Established in 1952 and as an IB World School since 1987, the school offers our students decades of experience in international education.

The school offers the best in Swiss and international education to prepare students for successful university studies in Switzerland and abroad.
As a school founded on principles of internationalism, the learning of languages has a longstanding tradition at Institut Montana. Their languages of instruction are German and English, while many of our students also study a third and fourth language.
